Physical Activity and College Students

Many college students do not get enough physical activity, which can lead to problems like obesity, stress, anxiety, poor sleep, low energy, and a higher risk of chronic diseases. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that only about one in four adults in the U.S. meets the recommended guidelines for both aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities. Not being active enough increases the risk of heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, obesity, depression, and anxiety. College students often face challenges such as heavy coursework, busy schedules, low motivation, and too much screen time, which make it hard to stay active. Encouraging physical activity in people aged 18 to 25 can improve their physical health, mental well-being, confidence, focus, and overall quality of life.
