Endometriosis Awareness and Early Diagnosis

Endometriosis is a chronic disease characterized by the growth of tissue similar to the uterine lining outside the uterus, leading to inflammation, scarring, chronic pelvic pain, and fertility challenges. This condition represents a significant women's health concern, as symptoms are frequently dismissed as typical menstrual pain, which contributes to delayed diagnosis and treatment. According to the World Health Organization (2023), endometriosis affects approximately 190 million women and girls globally, or about one in ten women of reproductive age. The average diagnostic delay ranges from seven to ten years, resulting in diminished quality of life, absenteeism from school or work, emotional distress, and increased healthcare expenditures (World Health Organization [WHO], 2023).
